I am a past president and Board member of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility. I chaired the 2001 CPSR annual meeting, and was a primary author of the One Planet, One Net declaration and campaign.

I have previously served on the national boards of the Institute for Global Communications

Since 1972 I have been a committed vegetarian and pacifist on ethical grounds, and have occasionally been flattered to find myself in lists of famous vegetarians. My views about killing are rooted in the philosophy of ahimsa. I acknowledge the existence of situations where the alternatives to killing are even worse, but have never personally encountered such a situation. We are too quick to kill, and the world is filled with needless suffering.
